The Peach Kings - Trip Wop EP
Hailing from East L.A. and conceived in late 2010, The Peach Kings are the musical love child of Paige Wood and Steven Trezevant. The duo blurs genre lines and have self-proclaimed their sound to be “gypsydelic.” Last year The Peach Kings won an unsigned artist competition thrown by Paste Magazine and Alternative Apparel, and have seen their music begin to gravitate towards the front page of music blogs everywhere. In the time since they have been working on a new EP entitled ‘Trip Wop.’
The EP was just released, and has been picking up steam already. The bluesy twang they employ has seen success by bands like The Black Keys, but there is an air of Portishead-ish synthesized psychedelia, putting them in their own category of uniqueness.
Stripped down, The Peach Kings rely on the melancholy, gorgeous vocals of Paige Wood combined with Trezevant’s somber guitar. Further production including organs, bells, and 50’s pop drumming is only icing on top of what is a fantastic listen.
After looping the EP about 5 times while writing this article, I have realized that the pair take me to a place of naive happiness, a place when all we had to worry about was science homework and locking lips. Think middle-school dance meets your dark hipster side… purely delightful. Because ‘Trip Wop’ is only four tracks (and one being a remix), it only left us wanting more. It will certainly be interesting to see which direction The Peach Kings follow from here, but all signs are pointing towards the sky.
As a special gift to our BL followers, we have included ‘Trip Wop’ as a free download, or you can just stream it here. We hope you enjoy, have a happy hump day. Treat your ears right. Listen to this album.
